Northern Showcase Founder & Prospects Director
Bill was born and raised in Saskatchewan, where he completed his education at the University of Saskatchewan. With over 40 years of coaching experience, he is widely respected for his lasting impact on athlete development and his deep commitment to the recruiting process.
Throughout his career, Bill has been driven by a passion for helping athletes reach their full potential and pursue opportunities at the next level. He has dedicated decades to not only developing high-level players, but also educating athletes and families on the pathway to post-secondary volleyball, ensuring they are prepared, confident, and visible to the right programs.
From 1991 to 2017, Bill led the highly regarded Prospects Camp in Saskatchewan, creating meaningful exposure opportunities and helping countless athletes advance to university and college programs across North America. In 2022, he brought that same vision to life in Calgary with the launch of Northern Showcase, which has quickly grown into one of Canada’s premier recruiting platforms.
MELANIE GUKERT
Marketing Director
Melanie serves as the Marketing Director for Northern Showcase, where she plays a key role in building brand visibility, athlete engagement, and national exposure for one of Canada’s leading recruiting platforms.
With a background in athlete development and program leadership, Melanie brings a unique perspective, grounded in both her own experience as a collegiate athlete and her understanding of the recruiting journey. Having played four years at the college level and now supporting two children as they enter their U SPORTS careers, she offers a well-rounded view of what it takes to connect athletes with post-secondary opportunities. Her work supports NSC’s mission of providing meaningful exposure and clear pathways for athletes to reach the next level.
In addition to her role with NSC, Melanie is an experienced coach who works directly with student-athletes through skill development and mental performance training. She is passionate about helping athletes build confidence, resilience, and a strong competitive mindset, equipping them with the tools needed to perform under pressure and succeed both in sport and beyond.


BARRY HEIDEBRECHT
Prospects Partner & Beach Director
Barry brings over 35 years of exceptional coaching experience across university, college, provincial teams, and elite 18U club programs in multiple provinces. Throughout his career, he has consistently helped athletes advance to the next level, with a proven track record of players moving on to post-secondary opportunities across U SPORTS, CCAA, NCAA, NAIA, JUCO, and even professional programs.
As an ACAC Coach of the Year recipient, Barry offers firsthand knowledge of the recruiting landscape and a deep understanding of what it takes for athletes to succeed at the post-secondary level. He is widely respected and well-connected within the volleyball community, known for his ability to identify, evaluate, and develop talent.
With a lifelong commitment to the game through coaching, mentorship, and volunteerism, Barry has established a standard of excellence while helping athletes and families confidently navigate the recruiting journey.
LESLIE HEIDEBRECHT
Prospects Partner & Beach Division Lead
Leslie brings over 25 years of head coaching experience at the college, provincial, and club levels, along with leadership roles at major events including the BC Summer Games (indoor and beach) and the Alberta Winter Games. She is a strong believer in education through sport and has dedicated her career to developing athletes both on and off the court.
Known for her ability to identify potential and guide long-term development, Leslie has helped numerous athletes advance to the highest levels of the game, including the Canadian National Team, professional leagues, and post-secondary programs across U SPORTS, CCAA, NCAA, NAIA, and JUCO.
Her perspective on the recruiting process is especially valuable, having worked on both sides—as a college recruiter and as a parent of three athletes who have gone on to compete at the post-secondary level in Canada and the United States. Leslie is passionate about supporting athletes and families through the recruiting journey, helping them prepare for the next level and find the right fit for their future.
